Dear Lipcan, I am interested in surgery with Dr. X and there are conflicting opinions. Where can we find honest reviews as it varies widely online?

Dear Surgery-Seeker,

Surgery can certainly be unnerving. Weighing costs, location, reputation can make the entire process feel overwhelming. We can’t endorse any specific doctors at Lipedema Canada, such as Dr. X, but understand your desire to find “honest” reviews.

There are certainly people online who are promoting specific surgeons for personal gain, but there are also many people who are simply sharing their experience. The issue is that everyone’s body is different, recovery is different, and expectations of outcomes are different. A good starting point would be to determine the type of answers you would like to have and pose those online in communities like our Facebook group for Lipedema Canada and the Global Lipoedema Awareness – Surgeries/Doctors group. So, rather than asking if he is a good doctor, ask questions regarding the things you are most concerned with such as the experience on the day of the surgery, aftercare, revisions if needed, etc, specific to patients of Dr. X. There are Facebook groups for patients of specific doctors as well, but you will need to determine whether these are representative of patient experiences, However, they can be a good place to ask questions as well. The more information you gather, the better informed you will be to make your own assessment.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

LipCan
